Senske Dray and Transfer started in 1945 in Crookston, MN, when Louie Senske bought out his partner, Wilfred Cassavant of C&S Dray. Louie peddled freight for two railroads and three LTL trucking companies. He also delivered furniture and goods for most of the furniture and hardware stores in Crookston.

In 1949, Louie bought his first covered moving van that allowed him to deliver goods during inclement weather. In 1952, he bought his first semi, which consisted of a single axle truck and a 26' moving van. This allowed him to haul long distance. At this time, the State of MN offered operating authority to any trucker who applied. Louie applied and received what is now known as irregular route general commodities grandfather authority. This authority is not transferable in its entirety to anyone other than an immediate family member.

By 1962, Louie had four semis on the road hauling grain, fertilizer, beer and machinery mostly within the state of Minnesota and the province of Manitoba. In 1962, his son Jim completed high school and joined the trucking business with his father. The company was renamed Senske & Son.

In 1965, Louis and Jim opened a branch office in Duluth, MN. They added a few more trucks and applied for authority to haul products throughout the United States. Senske had about 12 trucks on the road by 1982 and now had general commodity authority for the entire United States as well as designated authority for the province of Manitoba. Gross revenues were about $1,000,000. Louie decided to retire and sold his interest to his son, Jim.

Since taking over control of the company, Jim has opened offices in Ft. Dodge IA, Bemidji MN, Bismarck ND, Rapid City SD in addition to the Duluth MN office. In 1986, the company moved corporate headquarters from Crookston, MN to Grand Forks, ND. The company fleet now consists of an average of 40 trucks on the road including owner-operators. Senske's company equipment is usually updated every third year. Currently the company has year 2004 T-600 Kenworths on the road for company drivers.

Although Senske & Son is not longer in the dray or furniture hauling business we have found our niche in full truckload flatbed, step-deck and double-drop business with occasional partial loads and limited van & reefer business. We serve the United States, including Alaska, and the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.

In 1997, Senske & Son spun off a corporate sister in Senske Logistics. The Logistics business concentrates on brokerage and acts as a factoring company for Senske & Son. The change has been a positive for the company and annual revenues continue to grow.

Senske & Son entered the year 2002 with a continued goal of providing fast, efficient, and reliable service to our customers at a reasonable price. Using good equipment and excellent people will provide us the opportunity to continue in the transportation business for many years to come.
